Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 2 May 2026ERZ Nova Ltd is committed to making heritage stories accessible to as many visitors as possible — that is the purpose of HistoryTeller. This statement applies to the website at historyteller.co.uk and to the HistoryTeller audio guide at app.historyteller.co.uk.
1. Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the standard recommended by the UK Government Digital Service. Audio is, by its nature, an accessible medium for visitors with low vision or reading difficulties; our goal is for the surrounding interface to be equally usable by visitors with a wide range of needs.
2. What we currently do well
- The audio guide is operable from a phone the visitor already owns — no app download or account is required.
- Visitors can choose from over 40 narration languages, including languages with non-Latin scripts (e.g. Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, Japanese).
- Colour combinations on this site target a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text, against the parchment/dark backgrounds.
- Headings and landmark regions follow a logical reading order so that screen readers can navigate the page structure.
- Keyboard navigation is supported throughout the marketing site; focus states are visible.
- Audio playback can be paused, resumed, and chapter-skipped from within the guide.
- The site reflows and remains usable on screen widths from 320 px upwards.
3. Known limitations
We are honest about gaps that we are still working to close:
- Audio guides do not yet ship with full text transcripts for every chapter. Transcripts are being added on a rolling basis as venues onboard.
- The hero illustration on the marketing home page uses decorative motion (a slow-rotating ornamental ring); it does not honour
prefers-reduced-motionat this time. We plan to add reduced-motion support. - Some venue-supplied imagery may lack rich alt text; we are reviewing each asset.
- The HistoryTeller player UI has not yet been independently audited against WCAG 2.1 AA. An external audit is planned for [planned audit date].
4. Conformance status
The marketing website at historyteller.co.uk is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform; the items listed under "Known limitations" describe what is missing.
The HistoryTeller audio guide is under active development. A full conformance statement for the guide will be published once the planned audit is complete.
5. How we test
- Manual keyboard-only navigation testing on each release
- Screen reader spot-checks using VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) and TalkBack (Android)
- Automated checks using axe-core in our build pipeline (planned — currently being introduced)
- Colour-contrast verification against the design tokens
6. Tell us about a problem
If you encounter a barrier when using historyteller.co.uk or the HistoryTeller audio guide, we want to know. Please email hello@erznova.co.uk with:
- The URL or QR-code venue where you encountered the issue
- A short description of what went wrong
- The device, browser, and any assistive technology you were using, if known
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five working days and to indicate how and when we expect to address the issue.
7. Enforcement
If you contact us with a complaint about accessibility and you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
8. Preparation of this statement
